QOTW: First Cinema Experience

Hey guys. So, this is a new feature that Chris and I have decided to start up, mainly as a way of sharing some of our own experiences, but also so that some of you guys can share yours too, because well, we love hearing other peoples' experiences with certain parts of the entertainment world, and we love sharing too :)

This will - hopefully - be a regular feature at the beginning of each week, so if you have any questions that you think should be part of this feature, get in touch and you never know, we might be asking (and answering) your question very soon!

This week's question:

What was the first film that you saw at the Cinema?

Hook. During the Easter holidays of 1992 (and then the summer holidays too, I believe), I was a member of a Children's Holiday Club run by my local YMCA. I was eight years old, and we did stuff like walking, visiting museums, taking trips to adventure playgrounds and basically keeping us out from under our parents' feet during the holidays!

I remember the day when we were told that we were going to be going to the Cinema. I just got so excited because I'd never been before.

In a way, it was a memorable experience purely because I got chewing gum on my cardigan, that some kind person had left for me on my chair. But it was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with the Cinema, and for that reason I will always love Hook, no matter how corny the film is!

Cliffhanger. Back in the day, when I was a teenager, I had my first cinema experience. The year was 1993 and the film was Cliffhanger. I was already familiar with the films of Sylvester Stallone and it was nice to see a return to the action genre. I was used to watching films on video (ah, those were the days) so when I saw the cinema screen for the first time I was blown away. That deep bass cinema surround sound added so much to the experience. I enjoyed the film, as a Sly Stallone vehicle and as a first time cinema experience although my second trip a few months later had a bigger impact. I had been looking forward to Jurassic Park for quite some time.

It took a while for me to catch the cinema bug and I'm glad to say that I still  go as much as possible. I hope that will never change.

Kat says: It's quite ironic that the first film to have a real impact on Chris was Jurassic Park, because it's the only film that I ever remember not being allowed to go see when I was a kid. My mum thought that I was too young to see it. Looking back, she was probably saving me from the future fact that I have never liked that film!!
